This just in: Everything is DESIGN!

Howdy! Just got back from a fifteen minute reprieve from seasonal depression and wanted to drop some knowledge for all of the interior design bookies out there on the planet. This just in: you can find interior design inspiration from everything. And anywhere.

I know. I was gagged and gooped as well. But it’s true. You can actually find inspiration for home decor in every corner of your life. Not just in a showroom but feel free to start there and work your way out. Or start with the textiles, colors and fabrics that speak to you in your own closet for inspiration on a living room redecoration.

Like how one of my favorite spring dresses reminds me of the muted greens and golds found in this Regency-inspired New York apartment of the late American designer Van Day Treux.

By the way, if you are inspired by the flower print of the dress you’ll love the retro Miami Beach decor that’s going on at bon à la maison aka the damn Home Goods right now. And I know what you’re probably thinking. You’re all like, “Isn’t this just an article about inspiration? isn’t all creative work just a derivative of inspiration from the living world around us?”

You got me, gal. That is quite literally exactly what I am saying. Design is everywhere and it is everything and the beauty of that simple fact is what drew me to the craft behind it. Below are a couple of items from every day life that are currently inspiring current design projects.

Spending the day at the Hudson River, particularly at the public park known as Little Island inspired me to create an outdoor garden space reminiscent of the “tulip pots” designed by Thomas Heatherwick's company Heatherwick Studio.

This chrome bus spotted in Burbank California inspired me to purchase a new glass top coffee table with silver base.

Inspired by the candy-coated colors of the confections found in this Reading Terminal shop in Philadelphia, I am currently on the hunt for throw pillows in pastel coral, yellow, pink and candy-apple green!

The mix of the industrial black, browns, tans and grays mixed with the more vibrant colors of the passing yellow school bus, pizza shop and billboard on a New York City afternoon were the inspiration behind my quest for a new piece of art. This vintage piece from Revival Vintage Furniture Los Angeles is a great example of what I am currently looking for. It also includes the Technicolor glory of this gorgeous LA sunset against a neon sign captured on my way home from work a few years ago.

Those are just a few of the dozens upon dozens of non-interior design images currently clogging my to-do list with interior design inspiration. What are you currently being inspired by? We want to know! Give us an update on your current projects at sacredandlit@gmail.com.
